I have observed and understood the impact sustainable logistics is capable of leaving and how it can essentially be the next step for climate saving. Therefore, I believe that as a community we must join hands and strive to incorporate green logistics into our business plan.
To incentivize this further, and highlight the essentially of this practice as a tool to preserve the environment, I have summarized some of the many ways in which having green supply chains can help us contribute to environmental sustainability.
One of the most notable benefits of having sustainable logistics is the reduction in carbon emissions. Sustainable logistics run on fundamental principles that ensure the practice of eco-friendly rules aimed at reducing the carbon footprint in the supply chain. This is done in multiple ways for example limiting the usage of energy and streamlining logistics operations to bring greater efficiency. Making the process efficient is in itself quite the environmental victory because it implies that there is little to no wastage happening and so all the resources being used yield a 100% output.
A lot of research suggests that transportation is the largest contributor to EU greenhouse gas emissions. The European Union produced approximately 2.73 billion metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions in 2021. This was an increase of over 6% when compared to2020 levels. So just by the small mindful practices that we follow here at gryn we are playing an integral role in cutting down transportation-based gaseous emissions. The reason this is so important is that greenhouse gas emissions are incredibly deadly for the environment and contribute heavily to global warming. These gasses present in the earth's atmosphere act like glass in a greenhouse, to trap the sun's heat and stop it from going back to space, resulting in global warming.
Sustainable logistics and supply chain management also help reduce waste, especially plastic waste, majorly through the implementation of recycling practices.
As a company perhaps the greatest impact that we leave because of the incorporation of sustainable logistics as part of our business plan, is that of raising customer awareness and familiarizing more people with this concept. Giving birth to ideas and executing plans requires effort and is commendable but raising awareness is what gives this purpose the wings it needs to fly! By implementing sustainable logistics we do not just successfully accommodate members of society who are striving to bring about change but also inspire hundreds of others to do the same.
Conclusively, it would be useful to point out that green logistics, though not fully developed today, haste the potential of bringing about a sustainable revolution if businesses join hands and execute ideas effectively.
